Learn how to care for your chlorinated latex for long-term enjoyment
When you receive your chlorinated latex back, sometimes white blooming spots will show up during shipping the latex back to you. This sometimes happens and can easily be buffed out by using some silicon lube or silicon latex polish. Put a few drops on the latex and buff with a cloth. Eventually, after buffing for a while, you should have no polish left and also no spots left. Here is a link to video showing this process: https://youtu.be/2RyT-Z_7myo
If you see white areas along the seams, this is typically the rubber cement that was used to originally build the suit. If the maker did not clean the excess glue off the suit, this glue will turn white after chlorination. The only way to remove this is to use n-heptane, which is the solvent used for cleaning latex cement off. Heptane can be ordered from Amazon.
If you want your chlorinated latex to last for years and years, follow these steps: 1. After wearing, you MUST wash immediately with either a dish washing soap like dawn or with a latex laundry detergent like Vivashine wash. The oils from your skin get into the latex and start breaking it down and makes your latex smell funky too. Dont throw them on the floor and wash the next day. Take in the shower with you and do it when you take it off. The longer the latex is exposed to your oils, the more it will break down. 2. Cover the latex inside and out with silicone lube (like Pjur Original) at least once a year and allow the latex to soak up the silicone. This will protect the latex from oxidation which causes it to break down.
